The video for Tom Petty’s 1991 song Into The Great Wide Open has a number of famous faces. The main character is played by Johnny Depp, other famous faces in this video are Faye Dunaway of Bonnie and Clyde fame (and who also worked with Johnny Depp on Arizona Dream and Don Juan de Marco)Gabrielle Anwar, lately seen on The Tudors and Burn Notice, Matt LeBlanc, who later played Joey Tribbiani on Friends, and the singer Terence Trent D’Arby.
After Edward Scissorhands but before his roles as Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter, Sweeny Todd, the list goes on… Johnny Depp appeared in the music video for “It’s A Shame About Ray” by The Lemonheads.
The 2005 video for the 2nd single ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ (and 2nd UK #1) by British indie band Arctic Monkeys (and it’s accompanying short film Scummy Man) told the story of a 15-year-old prostitute in Sheffield. The young prostitute was played by Lauren Socha, now known as Kelly in Misfits, who was a mere 15 years old at the time. Co-starring in the video as her pimp was Stephen Graham, who recently starred in Boardwalk Empire as well as in films such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, POTC: On Stranger Tides and Public Enemies. He also had the main role in This Is England as well as in its TV series spin offs This Is England ‘86 and ‘88, alongside Lauren’s brother Michael, whose picture appeared in the sleevenotes of that debut Arctic Monkeys album with a picture of Joseph Gilgun, Lauren’s co-star in the newest series of Misfits!
